Teaching ALCI Reading 5, Spring 2013

Teaching Reading

Journal Entry from Observation Journal:

My experiences in Reading 5 were different from Cross Cultural Awareness, feeling like ages ago! Reading 5 was a different experience as it focused of the teaching of content and going very quickly in 7 week sessions. I found that there was never any time. Teaching reading strategies was interesting to observe and it was difficult to isolate the skill. Chris Brands provided excellent modeling skills as she had realistic goals in the classroom. The students were engaged, showed a great deal of respect and Chris dealt very effectively with an instance of plagiarism, wish students showing little to no motivation, with distracted students, with quiet students. She made herself approachable and available to the students.
